Abstract/Contents: | Charles G. (Charlie) Wilson reflects on his career in turfgrass management and research, and golf course care. Wilson describes how his interest developed and how his studies in agronomy led him to his association with the turfgrass industry. Working first with the United States Golf Association Green Section outside Washington, and later in Southern California, Wilson was then hired by O. J. Noer of the the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) to assist Noer as consulting agronomist and managing sales associated with the production and distribution of Milorganite. One early effort was organizing the Wisconsin Golf Turf Symposium. He also describes spearheading the O.J. Noer Research Foundation. After leaving the MMSD in 1979, his business activities focused on the development and marketing of AquaShade, a pond management product. Wilson is interviewed by Monroe S. Miller, retired superintendent of the Blackhawk Country Club and currently with the Wisconsin Turfgrass Association and Peter Cookingham, head of the Turfgrass Information Center at the Michigan State University Libraries. Tisa Overman, current head of sales for MMSD also participates. |
