Abstract/Contents:Presents results of research studies conducted to determine the effects of turfgrass management on ground water quality "divided into two categories: pesticide leaching and nitrate leaching studies." Discusses the results of a nitrate leaching study of late fall fertilization that "involved examing the loss of nitrate out of the root zone following a late fall nitrogen application." Results include that "leaching did occur with the sulfur-coated urea and flowable ureaformaldehyde, but significantly less than urea." Also mentions a study of nitrogen source/timing effect on nitrate leaching conducted to "1) characterize (quantify) the level of nitrate nitrogen potentially moving to ground water from the major nitrogen sources used in turfgrass fertilization and 2) define the major sinks (clippings, soil and leaching) for lawn fertilizer nitrogen applied to a turf area." States that this study "was initated in September, 1987, and will be continued through 1989." Also briefly mentions the construction of an Automatic Rain Exclusion System for Turfgrass Studies (ARESTS) facility and pesticide studies conducted in 1988.
