USGA Summary Points: | The less competitive hard fescue cultivar 'Beudin' had better playability than the more competitive cultivar 'Gladiator' when both were in combination with 'Quatro' sheeps fescue at the end of the season in 2021. There was a non-significant tendency for Beudin + Quatro to exhibit better playability in summer 2023. Beudin + Quatro produced 25% less clipping biomass than Gladiator + Quatro when plots were mowed once annually in autumn in two of three years. Ethephon + trinexapac-ethyl was more effective than other PGRs evaluated in improving playability of fine fescue areas in all three years. Improvements in playability were not consistent throughout the year and were less pronounced in some years. Triclopyr slightly reduced density of Beudin + Quatro in 2022, but otherwise there were no density reduction or phytotoxicity from any of the PGR/herbicide treatments evaluated in three years of the experiment. The same herbicide/PGR treatments were applied to the same plots in three consecutive years to evaluate compounding effects. |
