Abstract/Contents:Discusses the use of Entomopathogenic Nematodes (ENs) and biotechnologies as insecticides. Describes the life cycle of ENs, the pests which they are effective against, how to properly apply them, and some of the limits of their use. States that "while climatic conditions may limit the applicability in many areas of the U.S.A. the positive features of this technology, the safety to operators and the minimal environmental disturbance and the lack of need for registration all make it a technology worth following." Describes the production process for Nutri-Gro, an Australian product made by combining eucalyptus oil, ti tree oil, sterilized chicken and fish waste, molasses, and five specialist bacteria. Explains that the product destroys "osmotic relations in the insect as the oils destroy cell membranes." Describes proper application as a liquid as well as a micro-porous solid. Explains that rain immediately after application will cause leaching. States that "the positives out weigh the negatives many times over and we offer you some really stimulating challenges to your thinking about pest control."
