Annotation from Turfgrass History and Literature: Lawns, Sports, and Golf, by James B Beard, Harriet J. Beard and James C Beard: | "A rare book on the basics of turfgrass establishment and culture, with emphasis on lawns. It is oriented to amateur home lawn enthusiasts and cool-season turfgrass conditions in England. There also is a chapter on grass banks, verges, and paths. The last chapter briefly addresses tennis courts, badminton courts, croquet courts, bowling greens, and garden golf greens. In 1930, Walter Brett had the following comment on power mowers:
Power mowers are surely a real luxury. You can run over a 'vast' stretch of lawn at an amazing speed and finish up as fresh as though youd gone for a gentle amble in the park." p. 183 |
