USGA Summary Points: | In 2023, we continued the third year of evaluations for Phase III trials, which included the evaluation of 65 experimental genotypes, four elite genotypes, and five standards at Dallas, Olathe, West Lafayette, and five additional study locations throughout the year. Data Data collection in 2023 included turf quality, spring green up, winter injury, leaf texture, genetic color, and fall color. Additional trait evaluations [divot recovery (AR), cold (UT, IN, KS)-, drought (FL), and traffic-tolerance (TN)] were initiated in 2023 after full establishment of the entries. Genotype testing under shade was performed in TX from 2021-2023. Based on total TPI and ancillary trial performance, the 2023 analysis suggests TAES 6782-75, 6782- 104, 6789-23, 6792-44, 6831-09, 6839-08, 6844-31, 6844-104, 6844-150, 6844-202, and 6941-36 performed well; along with DALZ 1701 and Emerald. At least two more years of data are needed to observe better separation among experimental lines and identify superior line(s) across multiple traits and across diverse environments. Currently, all three years of data from all locations is being analyzed with a goal of making selection of top 10 lines from this set of 65 experimental lines. These elite selected lines will need to be further evaluated in order to identify varieties with commercial potential. |
