| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the changes in sensitive plants when exposed to reduced temperature, referred to as cold or chilling injury. The physiological changes include: alterations in cytoplasmic streaming, enzyme activity, respiration and photosynthesis as well as effects on membrane permeability, structure and composition. The goal of this particular project was to gain a more conclusive understanding of the process of cold acclimation in bermudagrass by characterizing the changes in membrane composition accompaning low temperatures. In addition this project also seeks to clone fatty acid biosynthesis genes expressed in bermudagrass in response to low temperature. |
