Abstract/Contents:Describes a research project designed to evaluate the possibility for the movement of pesticides and fertilizer components following application to golf courses and to develop the best practice for management to reduce the potential for pesticide transport to the water system. In some areas of the United States alomost 70% of the rainfall/irrigation water is lost from fairways as surface runoff, meaning that much of the pesticides that are water-soluble are transported in surface water. Up to five times the amount of pesticide was transported from fairways near field capacity compared to those near a wilting point. The conclusion of this project was a complete guide of Best Management Practices for applying chemicals to golf courses based on valid data.
