| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses turfgrass spread following sprigging. States that "rapid turfgrass spread is essential following sprigging, the most common method of vegetative propagation, because approximately 97 percent of the soil-surface area is exposed after planting." Discusses possible herbicide programs for use during establishment. Presents a study in which "herbicide treatments or plantings or large crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis L. Scop.) at one of either four densities were applied or seeded in six replications." Reports that "bermudagrass established from sprigs can compete successfully with weeds during a two-year establishment period without herbicides but the speed of turfgrass cover is improved during the first year with herbicide applications...[and] postemergence herbicides can also be effectively used during bermudagrass establishment from sprigs." |
