Abstract/Contents:"A national company with extensive mailing list and specializing in customer relationships, is in a unique position to assess the problems confronting the average lawnkeeper. It is not unusual to have 300 mail inquiries per day. A tally sheet was devised, catergorizing inquiries according to frequency, and random samplings were made on a week-by-week basis. 50-90% could be relegated to the "routine, common knowledge, answerable by form letter" category. The remainder required a technically reasoned answer from a person trained and skilled in turfgrass management. Questions on spreaders and mechanical devices predominated in all regions during spring, indicating interest in dry-applied materials and perhaps a greater concern for the "how" than the "why". Soils and weed indentification accounted for some 5 to 10 percent each. Weeds and grasses of most interest were recorded, as were various maintenance procedures and notations of "un-researched areas". The latter (un-researched areas) may help guide turfgrass research and extension. Except for excitement over Zoysia, there was surprisingly little interest in new or "imporved" strains of turfgrass. On the other hand, there is constant demand for simple elimination of unwanted grass, such as Nimblewill in the North or Bermuda and Dallis in the middle and southern latitudes."
