Abstract/Contents:"Four turfgrasses (Bermuda, centipede, Manila and St. Augustine) were grown in two gallon pots on virgin Arredonda fine sand adjusted to three pH levels, approximately 4.0, 6.0, and 8.0. Six minor element treatments (Cu, Zn, Mg, B, Fe, Ck) were added to each series in a randomized block design. Bermudagrass and centipedegrass grew well in the low pH series and exhibited a wide range of tolerance to soil reaction. On the other hand, St. Augustinegrass and zoysiagrass performed poorly at the low pH levels, improving in growth and condition as the pH was raised to 8.0. When small applications of boron and copper were added to the low pH series, reduction in growth was noted on St. Augustinegrass. Additions of zinc resulted in poor condition and growth of zoysiagrass at this pH level. On St. Augustinegrass and centipedegrass at the lowest pH level a deficiency of iron apparently was induced in the presence of other minor elements. However, this phenomenon was not exhibited at the higher pH levels. No minor element deficiencies were noted at the higher pH levels on any grass with the possible exception of iron deficiency on bermudagrass."
