Abstract/Contents: | "Six temporary ditch lining materials were installed in simulated median ditches and subjected to two rates of water flow. Manning' n, inches sediment, percent grass stand, and material costs were calculated. The standard Jute netting failed to control erosion under these conditions, although the grass stand was acceptable. Fiberglass at 24 and 18 pounds per 100 square yards, tacked with RC2 asphalt before and after application, controlled erosion with acceptable grass stands obtained. The costs of the Fiberglass treatments were $10.73 and $8.33 respectively, with Jute being $20.53 per 100 square yards. Mulchnet stapled over Fiberglass at the two rates did not decrease erosion nor affect the stand of grass. Excelsior Pad gave the best erosion control but the fine net cover suppressed grass emergence, with the cost being $24.33 per 100 square yards. The data indicate the Fiberglass-Asphalt treatments to be the most satisfactory when both economics and effectiveness in preventing erosion are considered." |
