Abstract/Contents:"Spring dead spot is a fungus disease which frequently attacks bermuda grass maintained for turf purposes. Circular areas of turf fail to survive dormancy and bermuda stolens entering the blighted spots usually do not become well enough established during the growing season to survive succeeding dormant periods. It has been shown that viable plants can be maintained in these blighted areas throughout dormancy by fungicidal treatment of the root zone. Monthly treatments must begin early enough in the growing season so that a substantial rhyzome system develops prior to dormancy, and must be continued beyond the onset of dormancy until cooler soil temepratures retard the activity of the disease complex. Soil drenches with special formulations of disodium ethylene bisdithiocarbamate have been particularly effective in controlling the disease and promoting improved winter survival under adverse conditions."
