Abstract/Contents:Drought avoidance is an important component of drought resistance. Differences in rooting depth and total root weight exist among the major warm season turfgrasses. These difference can be further shifted by adverse stress from soil compaction, waterlogged soils, unfavorable soil pH, or potentially toxic compounds. Bermudagrasses in this study exhibited a greater rooting depth and root number under stress conditions, probably a significant factor in the overall favorable drought avoidance and resistance of the bermudagrasses.
