| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the development of shade-tolerant bermudagrass varieties, stating that "the University of Georgia has released another variety in the 'Tif' series of hybrid bermudagrasses [in 2009] from its warm-season grass breeding program at the university's research station...TifGrand, which was tested in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) under the names Tift No. [number] 4 and ST-5, is the first sterile triploid hybrid bermudagrass with significant shade tolerance." Concludes that "wherever bermudagrass and trees have shared a golf course, superintendents have faced a struggle between turf and shade. Once again, turfgrass breeders are coming to the rescue by devoting years of research to the development of shade-tolerant bermudagrass." |
