| Abstract/Contents: | States that the United States Golf Association recommends light and frequent applications of sand topdressing. Summarizes topdressing equipment capabilities, including auger systems that allow precise measurements of material being used, tiltable spinners, and the ability to "mount electronic controls in the towing vehicle and manage each of the components independently from the cab." Overviews equipment designed to minimally impact the environment, stating that "the trend is toward electric equipment and away from gas-powered hydraulic systems because of the pollution caused by running an extra engine." Mentions the manufacturing of lightweight topdressers for use on golf courses, and concludes that "another development in topdresser technology is reduced maintenance...by using the central hydraulic unit of the towing machine, manufacturers reduce the number of hydraulic components to maintain." |
