| Abstract/Contents: | Describes the research by Pamela Rice, Ph.D. and Brian Horgan, Ph.D. for ways to reduce fertilizer runoff from golf fairways. States that a number of common pesticides were applied to creeping bentgrass turf, then simulated rain was applied to the area, then levels of pesticides were measured from collected runoff water. Notes that results were compared to those of areas that had been hollow-tine and solid-tine core cultivated. Concludes that hollow-tine cultivation can reduce pesticide runoff by up to 57%, and as such this process is recommended by Horgan and Rice. |
