| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses procedure for minimizing damage done to turf by a storm or hurricane. Advises that before a large storm hits, regularly scheduled fertilizer and pesticide treatments should be avoided, although applying a plant growth regulator shortly before impact can lead to better recovery after the storm. States that before reseeding a turfgrass cultivar with a low salt tolerance, soil salinity should be tested. Notes that irrigation water sources should have their salinity levels tested, and that highly salinated water should not be used for irrigation as it will cause a great deal of stress to the turf. Explains that any mud or silt left on turf should be removed with a flat-headed shovel, then followed with heavy irrigation, verticutting, and aerification. Notes that Gypsum could potentially be used to reduce levels of sodium in the soil. |
