Abstract/Contents:"Over 10,000 single and plural-seedling progeny of Merion Kentucky bluegrass, Poa pratensis L., were studied in an attempt to determine the extent of aberrancy occurring in this strain. An additional 5,000 progeny plants were studied in a second generation test to check on first generation classification, and to provide further information on advanced generation performance. Results show that Merion Kentucky bluegrass is highly apomictic for two consecutive generations. The second generation progeny test proved useful in verifying the classifications of the previous generation, especially for the questionable types. A certain number of first generation aberrants reverted to apomictic reproduction in the succeeding generation. Variability was found to be greater in plural-seedlings than single-seedling plants."
