Annotation from Turfgrass History and Literature: Lawns, Sports, and Golf, by James B Beard, Harriet J. Beard and James C Beard:"A dual turfgrass information and product booklet. It includes numbered drawings of equipment typically used in the 1930s. The use of mowrah meal earthworm irritant is described as follows:

On most courses it is generally regarded as part of the regular routine to destroy worms in putting greens, and now, with the increasing use of mechanical pumping machines for applying destructive agencies, many Clubs are treating the fairways also. To keep the fairways clear of worms is no doubt a good policy, especially as players have a preference for such courses, particularly in the winter months.

MOWRAH MEAL is the crushed residue of an Indian Bean known as Bassia latifolia. Not only is the product very efficacious in killing the worms, but it is of an organic nature and possesses fertilising properties.

There are many grades of Mowrah Meal, some of which are more finely ground than others. Coarse grades are of low value for the destruction of worms,
and although samples of this character are offered at cheap rates it is not economical to purchase them, for they may be only fifty per cent effective.

Another point with which purchasers should bear in mind is that from certain parts of India there is sometimes exported under the name of Mowrah Meal material which contains only a portion of the true bean, the remainder being from another type of bean the meal of which is somewhat similar to the genuine product. Even when this mixture is finely ground it is not properly effective.
