It contains some revisions of the earlier edition, primarily the photographs. Reginald Beale described a 1913 method for keeping cattle, horses, and sheep off putting greens in England:
Horses and cattle can be kept off putting greens if a few shovelfuls of finely sifted coal-fire cinders are scattered over the greens every now and again after mowing. The cinders will also keep off sheep to a very large extent, but a few will stray on now and again in spite of them. The cinders do not hurt the live-stock in any way, they simply make it uncomfortable for them to feed where they have been thrown, with the result that they move on to clean herbage and leave the gritting greens alone." p. 162 |
