Abstract/Contents:Discusses the isolation of a gene in plants that allows the roots to respond to gravity and hence grow downward. Highlights the negative aspects of herbicides, that would be of no concern if genetic control of weeds was developed. Explains how plants, with the help of the isolated gene, know which way is down.
