Abstract/Contents:"Alpha-tocopherol (Vitamin E) concentration of Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) was determined with high-performance liquid chronography (HPLC) to ascertain the influence of exogenous application of hormonal growth regulators contained in Humic acid (HA) and seaweed extract (SE) on turf grown under water stress and non-stressed environments. A randomised computer block design with two moisture levels and seven PGR treatments was used. The treatments were replicated three times. The antioxidant α-tocopherol was used. The treatments were replicated three times. The antioxidant α-tocopherol substantially increased in the leaves of the water-stressed plants compared with the non-stressed plants. Foliar application of HA and/or SE resulted in a significant increase of the endogenous concentration of α-tocopherol regardless of soil moisture stress. Correlation of plant growth parameters and α-tocopherol concentration showed that plants with high concentration of α-tocopherol produced better growth under both water stress and non-stressed conditions. Results indicated that exogenous application of HA plus SE enhanced endogenous antioxidant concentration."
