| Abstract/Contents: | "With the development and release of four zoysiagrass (Zoysia spp.) cultivars in recent years it is important that management practices be worked out for these grasses. Turfgrass managers need to be aware that these varieties respond differently to cultural practices than hybrid bermudagrass or even old cultivars of zoysiagrass. Therefore, a study has been initiated on a simulated zoysiagrass fairway comparing frequency of aerification and annual applications of two, four and six pounds of nitrogen per 93 (mĀ²). Cultivars included in the study were Cavalier, Crowne, Palisades, and El Toro. Color, density, and turf quality ratings were taken on a monthly basis throughout the growing season. Ratings were also taken for induction of fall dormancy and spring greenup. Significant differences were seen for all parameters and initial results show that two aerifictions per year and two to four pounds of nitrogen per 93(mĀ²) increases turf quality. Results were cultivar dependent." |
