Abstract/Contents:"Velvet bentgrass (Agrostis canina ssp. canina) is a cool season, extremely fine textured, stoloniferous grass introduced from Europe. Superintendents currently face the increasingly complex task of producing a premium turf surface while reducing environmental impacts. Velvet bentgrass was once part of many old greens but was lost due to past heavy nitrogen usage and higher maintenance. New cultivars are currently being developed to take advantage of the high quality turf with reduced inputs demostrated by this species. This poster will highlight recent studies with this species that have demonstrated high wear tolerance, reduced diseases, drought tolerance with superior turf quality while reducing nitrogen and other inputs."
