Abstract/Contents:"Metal spikes have been banned from many golf courses due to their damaging effects on turf. New alternatives appear each year. Several of these alternative treads were compared to conventional and modified spikes in simulated putting experiments on a sand-based green seeded to one of two creeping bentgrass cultivars. Tread marking, quality, and recovery varied significantly among several treatments. Some of the alternative treads caused damage comparable to spikes."
