USGA Summary Points: | Researchers recorded 4,864 observations of water birds, averaging 3.5 water birds per lake per survey. This included 31 species, including 11 species of short-and long-legged wading birds (30% of total observations), 9 species of ducks and duck-like birds including diving, fish-eating birds (55%), 7 species of seasonal shorebirds (12%) and seasonal kingfishers (1%), and 5 species of sea birds, primarily gulls (3%). These data indicated ample food resources were available to attract and retain fish-eating species. |
